SMEP Microfinance Bank has partnered with Britam Micro Insurance to launch a health cover which will provide inpatient services to pastors countrywide.
The health cover dubbed “Chunga Mchungaji” gives SMEP Microfinance Bank, in partnership with Britam, the opportunity to work with medical facilities affiliated with the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK). It is a unique insurance product for the clergy and church workers, offering then Inpatient Cover, Accidental Death Cover and Permanent Disability Cover among others.
- Under this cover, each Pastor/Church worker will get:
- An Inpatient Cover of Ksh 500,000
- Maternity Cover of Ksh30,000
- Accidental Death Cover of Ksh200,000
- Last Expense Cover of Ksh40,000
The annual premium cost is Ksh8,700 p.a. This cost goes up by Ksh1,400 for any other member added to the cover. Applicants also need to be covered under the NHIF for them to enjoy this cover.
Chunga Mchungaji was officially launched on 18th June, 2018 at Jumuia Conference Center, Limuru. The signing ceremony was done during the NCCK’s Nairobi conference held in the same venue. SMEP Microfinance Bank CEO Mr. Symon Kamore and Britam Group MD Dr. Benson Kuria signed the partnership deal in presence of NCCK General Secretary Canon Peter Karanja and NCCK Nairobi Region Chairman Bishop Julius Wanyoike. The cover seeks to assist the clergy assess quality health care across Kenya without undergoing the tiresome process of orginising for harambees to cater for their inpatient medical bills.
